Are you tired of your hair color fading? I bet you are especially annoyed when you pay to have beautiful color and two weeks later your color fades or turns brassy. One day I sat down with one of the hair care educators and asked what do I do about this fading color? He said “do you use hot water when you shampoo?” I replied of course I do why wouldn’t I? After that conversation I got my hair colored and started using luke warm water and I have no more fading hair. Wow, did that take me a while to learn that easy step to keeping my color vibrant. Let me give you some other great recommendations.
- Cool water is best for colored hair followed by a cuticle closing colder water rinse. If you can’t stand cool or cold water, use lukewarm water.
- Use a deep-conditioning treatment a few days before you color to help moisturize dry strands.
- Wait 24-48 hours after your last shampoo before the color is applied. The natural buildup of hair oils will help the color grab better for a deeper and longer lasting hue concentration.
- Allow 48 hours or longer to pass after the color is applied and washed out to resume your normal shampoo cycle.
- Use a mild formula shampoo. Some shampoo’s can be quite harsh on colored hair (anti-dandruff varieties in particular) and can strip out a lot of the deposited pigment. Make sure you’re using one recommended for colored hair.
- Use color enhancing shampoo.
- Hot oil treatments please avoid these they are known to strip the color.
- Deep condition at least once a week with products designed specifically to help maintain and strengthen color treated hair.
- Minimize the use of hot styling tools so If you are a slave to using your blow dryer or flat iron, use ionic products and use a heat protecting leave-in conditioner or a heat protectant product.
